Why learn with me:

I've been sketching and drawing for over 20 years and I still love it as much as I did in the beginning. I have a passion for art, but I also have a passion for teaching art.

I've had the pleasure of working with many companies over the years, including Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, XP-Pen, Huion, Ohuhu, and more.

I've taught thousands of students how to improve their drawing skills and character illustrations and I'd love to help you on your journey of learning too. Let me share with you the essential drawing techniques that have taken me years of study to figure out!

If you've always wanted to learn how to draw characters, but didn't know where to start, then join in today to learn how to easily sketch stylized female faces.

What if I am an absolute beginner?

In this class, I try to get into the mind of a beginner and how it felt when I was first learning. So if you're a beginner, feel at home. I think you will be surprised to discover what you're capable of!

I've taught thousands of beginner artists how to draw characters and you can do it too with lessons and practice!

What materials will I need for class?

To get started, the bare necessities are a pencil and paper.

As you get more into drawing characters however, you may want to expand your toolset. In that case, here are my recommended materials that I love to use when sketching characters.

Drawing Materials:

  • 0.3 3H Lead & 0.3 Draft-Line Pencil

  • 0.5 4B Lead & 0.5 Staedtler Pencil

  • Other Pencil Options: Pro-Matic MC5 or 2B Pentel Lead & 0.9 Draft-Line Pencil

  • Smooth white paper is great, I like HP Premium Choice LaserJet Paper

  • Kneaded Eraser

  • Sakura Electric Eraser

  • White Gel Pen

  • Blending Stumps, Q-tips, or Tissues for blending

How will this course help me in my life, personally and professionally?

Sketching stylized characters I've found is very fun but also therapeutic. Drawing helps you enter into an almost meditative state at times, helping you forget worries you may have. Drawing characters can be a form of creative expression and a way to communicate ideas and emotions visually.

If you have an interest in animation, comics, or game design, knowing how to draw characters can be a valuable skill and may lead to opportunities in those fields.

How is this course taught?

This course is taught in English with overhead video tutorials, slide presentations, and visual guides. You will also receive worksheets to help you solidify what's being taught in the class.

I typically teach by sharing the overall idea and concept first. After that, I typically demonstrate the ideas through an example. Then I share a worksheet or project idea and how you can put the concepts into action through practice.

More information:

My name is Gabrielle Brickey! I'm an artist and teacher, and today we're going to be drawing stylized female characters.

The question I get asked more than any other in my art is, how do you draw faces? Little faces are so much fun to draw. So I'm really excited to teach this class.

Today we'll be learning two basic but essential views: the front view and the three-quarter view.

You'll learn all the basics you need to know to make an endless variety of cute female character portraits. You can use any pencil and paper you have on hand to get started. But I'll also share with you all the materials I love to use. We'll talk about line quality and review the essential proportions of the human face. Then we'll dive right into the process of sketching female characters.

I'll show you step-by-step how to draw eyes, how to draw noses, how to draw lips, and how to draw hair. I'll show you how you can easily make your characters come to life with expression, and how you can add little accessories to give your character a story.

I believe even if you're a beginner, you can walk away from this course with a piece you can be proud of.

I'll share tons of worksheets, tutorials, tips, and references along the way so you'll feel confident drawing female characters.

Are you ready to start creating your very own, hand-drawn characters? Join today! I'd love to help you on your journey of learning to draw.
